Course Description

This course focuses on Edgar Allen Poe’s themes of madness masquerading as reason and the dispassionate reason employed in his stories of mystery, which is the genre Poe virtually created. Students will examine selected short stories and his novella The Narrative of A. Gordon Pym of Nantucket to explore creative possibilities for how to teach Poe’s fiction in the classroom.
